Confidence

Belief is an individual's ability to believe in himself. not many people can believe in themselves. many people often cheat in some ways, it is caused by a lack of confidence. confidence can be built by increasing insight. this is very helpful for someone in raising their confidence. indeed it takes time to gain self-confidence but that is what is called the change process.

Changing processes usually take months or even years. someone must be patient and continue to strive to build high self-esteem so as not to act cheating again. because cheating is not only detrimental to others but also to yourself

Unique Thing

Today on May 20,  there is a unique thing that happened at the boarding house, Saiful, who usually cooks rice perfectly but this time is different. Saiful who was the mainstay of cooking at boarding house this time failed because the rice he cooked immature rice. Everyone complained about the problem of immature rice. One of the most painful comments was Sandi's comment, he said: if I were the one who cooked it would not be like this.

But Saiful is responsible for immature rice. Raw rice is magic and becomes very delicious fried rice. The fried rice made by Saiful is no less delicious than the one in the shop, even my friend Fajar eats very much. From this story, we can learn that only one mistake can eliminate all that is good, while a thousand good things are never remembered

The Plan To move The Capital City Of Indonesian

In recent years, plans to move the capital city to Central Kalimantan are getting stronger. Palangkaraya is the strongest candidate to become the capital, but this plan is hampered because of the many pros and cons. Fear of not being able to compete local sons in the world of work is expected to be increasingly difficult if the capital city actually moves to Palangkaraya to be the main reason for the many rejections.
Besides Palangka Raya there are 3 more candidates including Katingan, Gunung Mas and Pulang Pisau. reviewing the capital's candidates was carried out directly by the president, on May 7, President Joko Widodo reviewed the places nominated as the capital. However, many believe that Palangka Raya will be chosen as the new capital of Indonesia.

Final Test Preparation

A few more days the final exam date will arrive soon, but there are still many lectures whose meetings have not reached 15 meetings. Many students complained about the number of lectures that still did not meet the target. But this did not reduce their enthusiasm for attending lectures and preparing for the final exam to be held on June 24.

Many of my friends began to diligently go to the library to study, this was the impact of the increasing library visits. The final exam is a magnet for students to diligently go to the library. It made me enthusiastic to prepare for the final exam as my friends did, starting from coming to the library to learning to find other sources on Google to study. the final exam really makes students enthusiastic in learning, even though we must always be enthusiastic every day both for studying and attending college. Why is that so that we get a lot of knowledge and can be practiced in everyday life

Forest fires

Forest fires are a phenomenon that occurs every year. Fire is caused by two reasons, the first is caused by humans and the second is caused by nature itself. Fires caused by humans are usually due to human carelessness in removing cigarette butts and forgetting to turn off fires that are camped.

Many think that forest fires from year to year are intentional (caused by humans). But the fact that fires are also caused by nature itself include lightning strikes in forests that are dry due to prolonged drought, underground fires in peatland areas and many others

Joint Iftar Activities

In this Ramadhan month has many a lot of Joint iftar activities at the mosques. Every day in Ramadhan month committee mosques gives food for breaking fast. this activity brings blessings to students for Ramadhan month. Many students think that breaking fast together easier and more practical because they don’t need to cook and spend a lot of money, and This can save time because more students study at 3:00 p.m. until 4:40 p.m. if they go home and cook at home it will take a lot of time and automatically before their dishes are cooked, the time for breaking the fast has arrived.

This joint iftar activity is very beneficial for poor families and students. The benefits of this activity were felt by all students outside the area, one of which was me. I was greatly helped by this joint iftar activity. Since many years ago this activity has been carried out and is very beneficial for many people, I hope this activity will continue and even better later.

Bad Impact Of Online Games

Games are one of the things that can make someone forget time. I think almost everyone thinks that the game is fun but few people realize that the game causes a lot of bad effects. The bad impact of the game, one of which makes people forget to pray and only think of games. Many of my friends prefer to delay prayer times than stop playing games.

Children now prefer to play online games on cellphones rather than playing in the field with their friends. Playing games can also affect one's thinking patterns, making someone more closed. Children must now be banned or restricted in playing games so that later children do not depend on the game.

Habits of students in doing assignment

Tasks are the usual ones for students but completing assignments has a lot of styles, one of which is to do assignments on deadline. Many students think that with them working on assignments the task deadlines can be completed quickly. This kind of thinking is very wrong because it will only.

Make students more tired and difficult in finding more references for their assignments. Students must be aware that doing the task from afar today is better. By completing assignments from far today students have more time to rest or to do other tasks. But students are not aware of this, they are more likely to do tasks on deadlines and it has become a habit among students.

Earth is in Danger

Everyone knows that our earth is old and in danger, it is caused by humans who occupy it. Since a number of years ago there has been a lot of illegal mining, this has caused oxygen depletion and also reduced the habitat of animal life. The condition of the earth is now very worrying besides illegal logging, the garbage disposal is also a big problem. This garbage makes many disasters such as floods, pollution to the ground, and so on.

Humans are the main actors in the destruction of the earth, but humans often do not realize it. Many people think that preserving nature is not important but is very important for the survival of humans and other living things.

The Student Senate

The student senate is one of the organizations in Palangka Raya IAIN. The student senate is the highest organization and has the authority to regulate other organizations. The Student Senate has the duty to set rules that must be obeyed. Not only setting Senate rules, but students also play a role in overseeing campus organizations so that all organizations move according to their functions.

Members of the student senate were taken from representatives of each organization on campus. One member was me who came from a language student association and was appointed as a representative to become a member of the student senate. Being a member of the student senate is not an easy thing, coupled with a busy schedule so that I have little difficulty in participating in organizational activities. But even so, I was happy and began to learn how to manage the time so that I could do my task well.

The Book

Books are information in the form of writing contained in a paper. Books are usually needed in writing scientific work as a reference. Many people say that books are knowledge excellence that can give us more knowledge, both about the information that is less clear and new information is obtained in reading it.

Everyone knows that there are many types of books, one of them is fiction books. Fiction books are works that are imaginary or non-scientific essays by writers. Fiction books are usually used for children to develop their imagination while non-production books are classifications for any informative or knowledgeable work. As students, books like this are usually very often found, either for learning or just looking for information.

The Mobile Phone

The Mobile Phone

Mobile phones are one of the electronic items that have many benefits. Everyone knows how to use handphone wisely so that they can be useful in everyday life. I think everyone has a handphone because handphones have become a major human need for modern life, so many people have never been able to separate from their handphones even for a few hours. This shows that humans are very dependent on cellphones.
Today mobile phones are the main friend for everyone. Mobile makes people less interacting with each other, even children who used to play in the field are now busy playing handphones at home, which makes it difficult for children to blend in with the community. Even though people know how dangerous mobile phones are for early childhood, they still allow that.

English Teaching Methods

Teaching Methods

In teaching the faithful people to have different methods so that what is delivered can be captured properly by the learner. Here are some teaching methods and their strengths and weaknesses:

Audiolingual method

The Audiolingual Method is a method for foreign language teaching which emphasized the teaching of listening and speaking before reading and writing. This method is a combination of behavioural psychology and linguistics. In the Audiolingual Method, the students first hear a language. Later, they speak the language and after that, they read and write in it. Mother's tongue is discouraged in the classroom when this method is used. The Audiolingual Method does not learn lots of vocabulary. Rather, the teacher drills speaking and grammar because, in this method, grammar is most important for the student. In other word, the student must repeat the grammar pattern after the teacher.
a.    Advantages
1)      Listening and speaking skills are emphasized and, especially the former, rigorously developed.
2)      students have little control over the material learned or learning methods.
3)      The method is just as functional and easy to execute for larger groups.
4)      Correct pronunciation and structure are emphasized and acquired.
5)      It is a mechanical method since it demands pattern practice, drilling, and memorization patterns.
b.    Disadvantages
1)      only focus on speaking and listening skills.
2)      The learner is in a passive role; the learner has little control over their learning
3)      It does not pay sufficient attention to communicative competence.
4)      Only language form is considered while meaning is neglected
5)      Equal importance is not given to all four skills.

TPR (Total physical response)

is a language teaching method developed by James Asher, a professor emeritus of psychology at San José State University. It is based on the coordination of language and physical movement. In TPR, instructors give commands to students in the target language with body movements, and students respond with whole-body actions. The method is an example of the comprehension approach to language teaching. The listening and responding (with actions) serve two purposes: It is a means of quickly recognizing meaning in the language being learned, and a means of passively learning the structure of the language itself. Grammar is not taught explicitly but can be learned from the language input. TPR is a valuable way to learn vocabulary, especially idiomatic terms, e.g., phrasal verbs.
a.    Advantages
1)      It is a good tool for learning vocabulary
2)      There is no age barrier
3)      It is fun and easy
4)      It does not require a great deal of preparation on the part of the teacher.
5)      Class size does not need to be a problem.
b.      Disadvantages
1)      It is only suitable for beginner levels
2)      it is not a very creative method. Students are not given the opportunity to express their own views and thoughts in a creative way
3)      repetitive. This method is a fun way of changing the dynamics and pace of  a lesson
4)      It is limited since everything cannot be explained with this method. It must be combined with other approaches
5)      It is not suitable for an adult learner.

PPP (Presentation, Practice and Production) method

PPP stands for Presentation, Practice and Production. It is referred to as a model, paradigm or approach to teaching language components. The procedure is straightforward. The teacher presents the target language. Then students are asked to practice it,  first in well-controlled activities, then in freer activities. It is only later that the students are allowed to produce. The process starts with the input and ends with the output. What happens in between is practice.
a.  Advantages
1)      can help students understand and explain the material provided
2)      gives them controlled practice
3)      Easy to prepare
4)      Easy for learners to follow this type of lesson
5)      Easy for learners to remain focused
b.      Disadvantages
1)      students may be confused because of the many steps this method must take
2)      It is a teacher-centred method and teacher talking time might be too long
3)      Students may get bored and unwilling to participate
4)      not suitable for  all  types of learning styles
5)      It is more focused on accuracy than on fluency except in the very last stage

ESA (Engage, Study, and Activate) method

The stages of ESA are roughly equivalent to PPP, though ESA is slightly different in that it is designed to allow movement back and forth between the stages. However, each stage is similar to the PPP stages in the same order. Proponents of the ESA method stress its flexibility compared to PPP. The ESA method as defined by Jeremy Harmer, its primary advocate, uses more elicitation and stresses more “Engagement” of students in the early stages of the lesson. Both elicitation (drawing language from the students by use of questions, prompts and cueing) and Engagement are important in raising student motivation, but both tactics can just as easily, and should, be used in the Presentation stage of PPP

Communicative method

A communicative method is an approach to language teaching that emphasizes interaction as both the means and the ultimate goal of the study. Language learners in environments utilizing Communicative techniques, learn and practice the target language through the interaction with one another and the instructor, the study of "authentic texts" (those written in the target language for purposes other than language learning), and through the use of the language both in class and outside of class. Learners converse about personal experiences with partners, and instructors teach topics outside of the realm of traditional grammar, in order to promote language skills in all types of situations. This method also claims to encourage learners to incorporate their personal experiences into their language learning environment, and to focus on the learning experience in addition to the learning of the target language.
a.       Advantages
1)      The communicative approach is much more pupil-orientated because it is based on pupils’ needs and interests.
2)      The communicative approach seeks to personalise and localise language and adapt it to the interests of pupils. Meaningful language is always more easily retained by learners.
3)      Seeks to use authentic resources. And that is more interesting and motivating for children.
4)      Children acquire grammar rules as a necessity to speak so is more proficient and efficient.
5)      The teacher-student relationship is an interactive, harmonious relationship.
b.      Disadvantages
1)      Often, there is no text.
2)      grammar rules are not presented.
3)      correction of errors may be absent or infrequent.
4)      Students with low levels of proficiency in the target language may find it difficult to participate in oral communicative activities
5)      students tend to be shy and have difficulty in communicating because they have not mastered well the grammar and vocabulary
